How AI Is Used
Mythographia uses AI tools as part of its development and editorial workflow. This page explains how AI is involved and what guardrails are in place.
Development Assistance
AI coding assistants are used to help build the site's infrastructure, components, and tooling. All generated code is reviewed and validated through automated checks before being committed to the project.
Content Drafting
AI may assist with drafting content entries, but all published content must pass editorial review against cited sources. AI-generated text is never published without human verification against primary and secondary source material.
Pictures
Two kinds of picture can appear on this site, and they are never presented alike. An artefact is a real object photographed in a named collection: the caption gives the holding institution and the accession number, so anyone can look the object up and check it. That kind of image is evidence.
An illustration is a picture made for this site. It is evidence of nothing. It shows how an episode has been imagined here, which is a different claim from showing what an ancient artist made, and the caption says so on the image itself rather than in a note somewhere else. An illustration never carries a museum's name, and the underlying data cannot record one against it even by mistake.
Every illustration's caption names the tool that produced it, and the file itself carries the same disclosure the caption does: each is tagged with the IPTC marker search engines use to detect generative-AI images. Mythographia holds full rights to publish and reuse each one, the same way it would for commissioned artwork - not because the tool is uncredited, but because the terms under which it was generated assign the output to the account that made it, not to the tool itself.
What AI Does Not Do
- AI does not autonomously publish content
- AI does not serve as a primary source for factual claims
- AI does not make editorial decisions about what to include or exclude
- AI does not produce any image presented as an ancient object
